Art Nouveau-Era Lesbian Writer

Renée Vivien, 1877-1909

Renée Vivien was a mysterious English-born poet who wrote in French, partly to keep the Lesbian content of her writing from her family, and partly because she spent her childhood in Paris and felt more French than English. She died at 32, but left behind a large body of varied writing. Now her 12 books of powerful, rhyming poetry are being translated into rhyming English in their entirety, alongside Renée's original French versions.

The French and English version of Etudes and Preludes, her first book of poetry, first published in 1901, is now available through Amazon:
